I do agree that user error plays a big role in the problems with the Serpa. I do however believe that under pressure, the likelyhood of experiencing a ND while using the Serpa is heightened. Thanks for the kind words on the blog. Take care as well.

I have a serpa like holster from Israeli Defense Industries and i will say that i have had no such issue with mine...i shoot IDPA with a 1911 and it has to be carried cocked and locked so maybe that is something that works in my favor but it is a shame that the serpa is getting such a bad reputation for what is ultimately user error...great blog and take care!

I copied one and made it myself. The secret to further comfort is to modify the mold to fit the contour of the kydex. Another little secret I've discovered is that the distance of the belt clips from the sheath makes a difference. I used thicker hide for my backing. I may order some thinner leather and replace the hide on my current holster.

Yeah, they do seem pricey, and people seem to alter them for better comfort.

Excellent points of view. But I must say that there are way better options for LEO use. Safariland offers a wide array of great retention holsters and they seems to be a favorite among officers of the law.

Serpa is a no-no in any of my lists.
